What is the KPNC Community Advisory Board for Research?​

The Kaiser Permanente Northern California Community Advisory Board for Research (CAB-R) is a standing advisory board with 12 individuals with leadership roles in health-related organizations working throughout Northern California. The Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) Community Advisory Board (KPNC CAB-R), composed of local community leaders, collaborates closely with researchers to ensure community voices inform research addressing health at individual, community, and health system levels. The Board champions responsive practices, driving meaningful change in research and its impact within KPNC.

What is the KPNC Division of Research?​

The KPNC Division of Research (DOR)​ is an internationally respected research institution and one of the nation’s largest research facilities outside a government or university setting. KPNC DOR is the primary professional home of more than 60 research scientists and 600 staff members. Its resear​ch, which includes epidemiologic, health services, and clinical trials, covers a wide range of topics, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, infectious disease, mental health, and maternal and child health. Within these clinical topics, research addresses broad issues, including the influence of behavior on disease prevention, chronic illness management, health policy, disparities, and the role of genes and the environment in health. KPNC DOR has almost 400 ongoing research projects and contributes more than 500 scientific papers to peer-reviewed journals annually. 

Service to society is central to KPNC DOR’s mission; specifically, seeking “to transform health through research by finding the best ways to deliver health care to Kaiser Permanente members and society.” ​​
